Wow. The master, has done it again.

Paris Fashion Week was kicked off last Monday with a sultry, feminine BANG with Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2011 collection by John Galliano. I actually want to eat every piece like a delicious, refined couture cake. Galliano has tapped into the fashion house’s strong heritage, displaying distinct, beautiful feminine 50’s silhouettes.

Inspired by the noted fashion illustrator – Rene Gruaub whose work was mostly identified with the French Fashion House from 1947. You can definitely see the inspiration within the sculptural, voluminous and razor sharp edges which give a glimpse of the slip underneath. Gruab’s distinctive exaggerated style of design inspired the whole of the fashion industry and will always be remembered for its”timeless and enduring style”.

This collection has everything for me; from the beautiful powder and power pallet, to the wasp waists, bare shoulders, belted peplum jackets – worth a special mention are the textures, volume and depth and of the tulle pieces. As you can tell, Galliano’s shows are definitely the ones I look forward to and cherish.

(Left: Iconic Red and Black Wasp waist belted peplum skirt and jacket. This Woman will eat you alive.
Right: Detailed Golden Peplum Jacket with Tulle Trimmed Tail and Wiggle Skirt)

(Left: Sunburn Wrap Jacket, Wasp Belt, White Wiggle and Orange Elbow Gloves. Yum.
Right: Luxurious Gruarub Style White and Gold Textured Coat. Everyone should know Betty is a sucker for an outrageous coat. )
(Left: An architect’s dream. A-Line Skirt, Structured Shouldered Jacket. The New Power Suit.
Right: Gradual Shadowing, Lady of the Night. Voluminous Wrap Coat Dress)
(Left: The textured tulle train in those beautiful pastels are framed beautifully with the flower detail, making that tiny model look like she has some bangin’ curves
Right: Grace Kelly. Eat yer face. Check this model out strutting her stuff in this bountiful yellow number. The sharp edges of the tulle frame her feet so delicately. J’adore.)

The pallet was kept simple; powerful blacks, reds, teals and oranges were beautifully complimented by powder shades. This really played up to the retro feel of the collection, each outfit from head to toe shows a confidant, sexual temptress, and she wanted everyone to know about it. These were my favourite looks:

(Left: My future Wedding Dress. Long Sleeves, Cowl Asymmetric Neck, structured – yet delicate hem line that almost looks like brush strokes, is there anything more you would want in a dress?
Right: Shoulders Shoulders Shoulders. I LOVE this line on a lady. It is so playful and feminine, but still gives this amazing “don’t fuck with me” attitude.)

The hair and make up was – as always- stunning. Twists, twirls, eyebrows and lips all topped off with veils and intricate head pieces. Can you get more Dior than that?

Obviously, this collection screams Dita and Ms Christina Hendricks but I have a feeling that there will be a fight for one of these bad boys for next months Oscars! Anyone got a treat for a Swollock?

Forever yours,

Betty xoxo
