OK, so the calendar technically says it’s springtime, but in a lot of places, we’re in the thick of that awkward in-between phase where the final dregs of winter just won’t quit. So, how do you dress when it’s hot in the sun, cold in the shade and rainy in between? Boom: the midi-skirt, or dress as the case may be.

Just as the name implies, midis are perfectly in the middle. They expose just the right amount of lower leg, which allows for breezy relief when temps peak during mid-day, but still leaves you appropriately covered up for when the chill sets in after sundown. The midi has progressed since first stepping into our wardrobes a few years back, what with the plethora of styles just waiting to be explored. From pleated to wrapped, printed or plain, the midi is a wardrobe lifesaver and recently I can’t get enough of wearing them over jeans.

Jeans are everyone’s layering lifesaver and although they are the hardest things in the world to buy (post coming soon) they are the perfect way to keep your pins warm. Dressing up your everyday skinnies with well, a dress, will up our outfit ante in a heartbeat. The flash of denim at the bottom of your dress is an instant upgrade for the – let’s face it- mostly too cold to wear tights. Am I right?

Recently I’ve been feeling like I’m still in ‘winter body’ mode. Which to be fair, isn’t exactly terrible, but has made me more conscious of my problem areas – aka hips, bums and tums. Although I know I am by no means fat, in fact, over the last few years I have been more comfortable than ever with my body, but that still doesn’t mean I don’t have bad days. Especially when you see your body change and your clothes fit different than before, it can be tough! I know this won’t be the last time I feel this way so to deal with it, it’s about rolling with the punches and finding even more shapes that flatter the slightly curvier you.

Boots: Zara, Bag: Boden, Glasses: IOLLA

If you are wanting to embrace the middle, there are loads of ways that you can layer or wear straight up when the weather kicks in.  How do you wear your midi?

forever yours betty

  3. I love love love this outfit! You look fabulous and I am totally loving your shoes and bag. I totally feel you about the jeans situation! It is such a big deal for so many people to go shopping for them. I think it’s because it can be so difficult to find your perfect pair depending on your body shape! You look gorgeous in your jeans!

  4. Aw thanks Ema! Jeans shopping is my idea of fresh hell! Especially when you are apart of the juicy thigh small waist gang! Will be posting my tips (and tantrums) soon! Xx

  5. I really love this outfit! Funnily I am in a ‘spring mode’ with my body when I am out and in a ‘winter mode’ when I am at home, too cold still in the buildings without heating on. Can’t wait for summer!!
