I have always considered myself as an art lover, but after my recent visit to the Turner Prize exhibition I realised I much prefer to my masterpieces up close and personal, like hanging in my wardrobe. Thanks to The Rodnik Band, I was transformed into real life Pop Art for the 10th Anniversary of the Scottish Style Awards held within the stunning Kelvingrove Art Gallery. It’s one thing to spend a Saturday admiring great works of art, but it’s another to wear a work of art while in the same house as Monet and Van Gough. For one night and one night only, I was turned into my spirit object, a sparkling can of Irn Bru.

It’s no secret my love for the delicious orange Scottish soda. Since I was a little girl I was obsessed with their advertising, hoping one day hoping that one day I would work for them,  nevermind be one! Last year during the referendum, one of my favourite British designers created this incredible dress in the shape of a sequin can of Irn Bru. It was at that moment that I knew it would be mine, even just for one night I would finally become the most stylish can of Irn Bru anyone ever did see! Really, it was just a matter of time until the perfect event presented itself and as soon as the SSA invite hit my inbox, I knew it was time.

Styling an orange and blue sequinned dress shaped as a can of Irn Bru could be considered tricky, but I  had one pair of boots for the job – my Zara Dior Dupes! I love the square toe and nude patent with that incredible orange ombre heel looks like I spilt some Bru in them. You really couldn’t get closer to the Dior boots of the season if you tried.

With it being the start of November, there was the slight issue of ‘to tight or to not tight’.  I recently read an article which investigated how bloggers handled a tightless winter all in the sake of cute leg photos. Now, unless they are superhuman and are not receptive to the cold, they were all just wearing the new Wolford 10 denier nude tights. Not only do they feel like a silky soft just shaved legs, they have the most perfect adaptable colour which suits most if not all skin tones. Wolford has been at the top of their hosiery game for as long as I can remember and the quality and technology has only got better. If you are looking for some nude tights that won’t make you look like you are about to hit the disco, then these are the only way to go, day or night.

I cannot thank The Rodnik Band enough for letting me fulfil my dream dress fantasy. Since meeting  Mr and Mrs Colbert at the Scottish Style Awards two years ago, I was completely hooked on their infectiously fun sense of style that filters their way through all of their collections. From fashion to homeware, this dream team use colour and quirk as a weapon. From Jaws-like sharks to Turner Prize urinals, these pieces are walking works of art in their own right. I’ve never worn something that felt it reflected me on the inside on the outside. From the flattering scalloped hem to the precise placement of each individual sequin. If happiness was a dress, it would most definitely be this one. Posting it back is gonna be difficult, but at least I have the pictures to prove its epic existence. What do you think of my Irn Bru dress?
forever yours betty

  1. So jealous here. I love the dress and becoming a walking piece of artwork is a once in a lifetime chance and you rocked it :-) What will happen to it now? Will it be displayed somewhere?

  2. I am sending it back to the Rodnik Band. I wish I could wear it all the time, it makes me so happy! A lot of the Rodnik Bands clothing goes into exhibitions so I’m sure this will make it’s way to one soon. I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted! x
