With Autumn / Winter almost upon us, the struggle is real to not splurge on all the things we ‘need’ to revamp our wardrobes for the next season. It’s super easy to get caught up in the fun, flashy pieces but, it’s the classic staples that really stand the test of time. Enter: Gant.

When I think of GANT, I can’t help but think of Dead Poet’s Society and the WASP-y, Ivy League crop of American boys and country clad gents. It’s not immediately the brand you think of as a woman, but if there’s one thing these guys do well, it’s the crisp shirt in all of it many forms.  Is there anything more classically American than a classic button-down? I don’t think so. Gotta have a (dressing room) montage, montage!

IMG_6469IMG_6638FullSizeRenderCNjslcVW8AATISkThe original work shirt  is worth its weight in gold, putting in overtime again and again, going with pretty much anything in your wardrobe. It’s the easiest go-to over jeans or a skirt, but even more importantly, it layers perfectly over just about all of our favorite tees, tanks, and dresses. Like I said, this is your wardrobe workhorse, so you better make damn sure you get a good one to see you through. GANT have been practising the shirt since opening in New Haven in 1949, but really became the item du jour with young scholars in Harvard in the 60’s. I’m a real sucker for heritage brands and always go back to them a million times over. I have my Burberry Trench, my Levi jeans, Converse Chuck Taylors and now I finally have my Gant Shirt.

As you can see, myself and Bee had a great time visiting to our local GANT store in Edinburgh. I was really surprised to see the various style, cuts and fabrics that were available – and at very reasonable prices too! Since GANT pride themselves as a classic heritage brand, their collections are basically seasonless so now is as good a time as any to stock up on a variety of shirts that will carry you through the next 12 months. Tied up, buttoned down, or left open, here are my top picks from their new collection that could slide easily into anyone’s wardrobe!

IMG_6552IMG_6513I loved trying on a variety of styles, including their ‘straight off the boat’ cotton riviera polo shirts and shirt dresses! I completely fell for the co-ord floral print they had in for fall winter, the trousers were the perfect cut and would brighten up a day or a night look with ease. I couldn’t help but get caught up in all the Americana and grabbed the XXL American Flag knit from the menswear department to wear over my new Oxford. Just needed my Chuck Taylors and I am ready to get my cheer on! GO TEAM!

I can’t wait to wear my new shirt all kinds of ways, the only problem now I’ve tried the best of the best. I want linen, I want denim, I want print – keep doing you Gant, it’s obviously working! If you’re looking for the perfect shirt, definitely look no further.

forever yours betty
