Shoulders tend to get a bad rep: Sometimes you’ve got a chip on one, other times you may be giving a cold one. But, the top style of the summer – if you can call it that –  is finally giving the unlikely sexy bodypart the spotlight they’ve long deserved. Off-the-shoulder pieces are the flirty new way to show a little skin without making it all about cleavage – all the small titty girls say “heeeeey!”

Don’t get me wrong, I  love crop tops and backless dresses as much as the next girl, but sometimes we find ourselves in need of another way to subtly show some skin, especially if like me you dont have much in the boob department. Fortunately, the off-the-shoulder look is back in a big way, and I couldn’t be happier to reintroduce this silhouette to my closet, especially when I found this little number hiding in one of my favourite Glasgow Vintage shops – City Retro on King Street. It’s crisp white condition and the stunning blue embroidery made me feel straight of the prairie, but sultry at the same time. I love that the best styles just come back round again and again.

What I love so much about the off the shoulder trend, is that unlike other body parts, the shoulder is something that hasn’t been picked apart as something that we should all be self-conscious about. There’s no ideal shoulder. There’s no “ugly” shoulder. There’s no shoulder that looks better in a bikini body than another shoulder. That means, you probably have nothing but positive, lovely feelings about your own pair, which means that this trend should be especially fun to pull off!

Whether it’s something your flinging on with a pair of jeans or a sultry number that clings in all the right places, off the shoulder happens to be taking up lots of real estate on this season’s dresses and tops. Yes it may not be the easiest look to pull off if you’re on the bustier side, but with the right strapless bra – bring in my girl Bee – I promise it’s an option worth considering when you are looking for a new way to turn dem heads (and shoulders!).  Will you be baring shoulder this season?

  1. You should definitely try your hand (or boobies) in the bras that my girl Bee recommended. She has the same issue but filtered down the best of the strapless! x

  2. You look beautiful! The dress is such an amazing find. You’re right about shoulders- there seems to be no big body hangup about them. They’re obviously the most loved body part :)
