If you haven’t had any success perusing those ever so tempting last-chance winter sales in search of that stunning  super-trendy piece, it’s time to stop the insanity and get back to basics. After all, the foundation of a truly great, well-rounded wardrobe isn’t built on leftover sale pieces and fast-fashion  but on classic, functional pieces that promise to last a lifetime. If there’s one thing I know, they don’t make em like they used to, or like they still do at DC Dalgliesh

Dalgliesh may be old-school, but being the world’s only dedicated hand-crafted tartan mill means they certainly aren’t afraid to stick to  “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, especially when it comes to their bespoke tartan and woolen production processes. Now, just because they have been using the same techniques for over 100 years doesn’t mean they don’t have a few tricks up their merino sleeves! Since bringing on personal style crush (and stylist) Lynne McCrossan as their Brand Guardian a few months back, DCD has definitely been the Scots Fashion pack’s best kept secret. Shooting with the country’s top photographers in iconic locations DC Dalgliesh is asking Scotland, how do you wear your heritage?

_DSF2945_DSF2986Using some DC Dalgliesh classics – the tartan suit, shepherd’s plaid and merino wools – myself, Lynne, stylist Adam Holmes (AKA Menswear Whisky) met with legendary Glaswegian photographer Brian Sweeney for a late night shoot in SWG3. I love the thought of showcasing the same products through different styling, lighting and personalities. I couldn’t help but be drawn to the cherry red merino wool jumper and went all out Americana for the styling. Can’t beat a little bit of luxury over a classic white shirt and a pair of Chuck Taylors, now, can we?

_DSF2966_DSF2972I always put purchases down to a cost per wear ratio. Think of your classic pieces like that cosy blanket you love to curl up and watch Mad Men with. It’s always there for you when you need it, and like hell are you ever gonna sell it or chuck it away! I get exactly the same feeling when it comes to my wardrobe staples. They are always there when you need them, waiting to make you feel great at your disposal. So the next time you see that cheap, sad jumper sitting on the sale rail, just think about the pleasure you would get from one, luxury, hand woven number, and let those natural fibres shield you from any ‘last chance to buy’ regrets. Trust me, your wallet will thank me! How do you wear your heritage?

forever yours betty
