It’s a new season – a time for sorting out your life, boxing those denim jackets, bringing out those furs and starting fresh, right? And though you might be ready to explore new trends and embrace the colder months, your clothes aren’t the only thing that need a little bit of an overhaul. If you’re guilty of hanging on to that crumbly compact (come on, you know the one!) or that dried-out mascara tube, I’m here to show you my cult beauty essentials with the oh so handy late night shopping in Glasgow City Centre.

First up, it’s all about dat base. In many ways, foundation is similar to armor. It covers you where needed, protects from outside elements, and shields our imperfections from the world. The key to finding a foundation that fits all your needs  is to solve the enigma that is your skin type. For example, if you battle acne and clogged pores, you should choose something lightweight that’s easily buildable, so you can customize your coverage, or if like me, you have combination skin, you have to find the best of both worlds.

I find that my skin completely changes in winter. As soon as that cold wind blows, my skin dries up and shrivels, begging for some moisture. I’ve always been a big lover of Nars and being one of the only brands that make a foundation light enough for my skin, I high-tailed it to House of Fraser to try the highly hyped Sheer Glow foundation. It’s got that medium but buildable coverage that I know and love, leaving my skin hydrated and luminous. Exactly what you would want in a Winter Foundation! Being £31 (+£3 for the pump…i know right?!)  it is on the higher end of the pricey scale but with the coverage and finish I would definitely say it’s worth it for a happy, even toned and hydrated face.

I am without a doubt a creature of habit. When I like something AKA polo necks I go all out and buy them all. But to be honest, my make up box is one of the only areas that I tend to experiment with everytime, well that’s unless I’m talking Lancome’s Hypnose Mascara. I mean, if you find a good thing, you may as well stick to it. Since I have always broke fundamental lash rule number 1 by never curling my lashes so I need a mascara that will do it for me. This mascara doesn’t shout from the rooftops about curling, it is just the best al rounder I have ever come accross, giving me wide eyes and long separated lashes without clumping. I love myself a high street mascara but if I could choose any mascara in the world that would never let me down it would have to be Hypnose. As one of the best-selling mascaras in the world, that many people can’t be wrong, right? House of Fraser also have this nifty deal with travel sized remover and kohl for just £22.50! What a bargain.

It’s been a long time coming, but as a girl who loves her blusher it’s a crime that I’ve not had Nars’s Orgasm in my arsenal, until now. Perceived as one of the ultimate beauty cult classics, it’s been a best seller for years receiving the highest ratings on most beauty sites while claiming to be ‘the best blush ever made’. Hype much? Of course, it was about time I gave it a shot God dammit the hype is real.

Orgasm Blush makes your cheeks the most perfect pinky-peach with subtle highlights of golden shimmer. It looks like the kind of pallet that would suit most skin tones and would be perfect all year round on your eyes as well as cheeks. This is an investment no matter what the season and believe me when I tell you, you need it.

Now, this wouldn’t be a list of cult classics for autumn / winter without a Touche Èclat! Forever holding the gold medal (or tube) for cult illuminating concealers, YSL Touche Èclat has been a favourite for many over the years.  As I mentioned before, when Winter kicks in my skin gets all dried up and my usual concealer just doesn’t cut the mustard. I need something nourishing and brightening to make my face look the best it can, even if it is beaten and weathered underneath! Touche Èclat is great for popping in your bag, lining your lipstick and, of course, hiding those under eye bags with all the nights out that come with the festive season. What’s not to love?

Whether your make up bag needs an overhaul or just a little refresher, these four products will make sure that the colder months don’t take it’s toll on your face. I hope these cult classics serve you as well as they have me, and best of all you can now buy them late night shopping in Glasgow until 8pm. With over 200 stores in our city centre, buying your A/W essentials has never been so easy. Head over to People Make Glasgow to find out the new times of your favourite stores.
