Is there anything better on a Saturday afternoon than sharing a bottle of fizz with your bff over some simple — but delicious — eggs? Didn’t think so. Brunch is the weekend’s saving grace. It doesn’t happen too early, it’s a social event almost everyone enjoys, and it offers just the right amount of indulgence, especially when it’s served with a bottle of fizz like the new Hutchesons Bubbles n’ Brunch menu.

Last Saturday, me and my girl Honey Pop hit up the newly awarded ‘Most Stylish Restaurant in Scotland’ for brunch, bubbles and a blether. Brunch is, hands-down, my favorite meal. Not only does it make it totally acceptable to eat breakfast foods late into the afternoon, it also gives the excuse to drink earlier in the afternoon with a royal catch up with your besties. And if there’s one thing that gets you feeling bubbly, it’s — well — a whole lot of bubbly.

When you first arrive at Hutchesons, you are taken aback by the general grandness and beauty of the building. It’s been many a thing in it’s time; a high school, a hospital and now uber stylish bar and restaurant, Hutchesons is the fine dining experience without the stuffyness. Decadent high ceilings, original fixtures, friendly staff and a menu that caters to any taste bud, it really is the perfect venue for the untimate brunch experience.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that me and my friends like what we like and aren’t afraid to ask. Sometimes this can appear dickish but dammit, we like our brunch with a side of avocado and we’re not ashamed to say it! I ended up going for the Eggs Royal (with added avocado) with Honey Pop going for the avocado toast, exchanging her poachy for a slice of salmon. The waitor who took our order was very accomidating and assured us that everything is made so fresh that all exchanges are welcomed, so no dickheads here! Service with a smile, brunch the way you want it and a gentle top up of our bubbly.

Before our mains arrived, we were brought some lovely warm croissants and a selections of butters, jams and marmalades. The pastries were delicious and washed down with a large cold jug of OJ and a bottle of fizz which was gentley topped up whenever they had about an inch to spare. Taking time out to do something nice with your friends is so important. It’s all too often that you get caught up with life and everyday chat that you don’t stop to ask questions like, but how have you been, really? It’s a time of year where everyone is busy and / or skint, so making time for the people who have seen the best and worst you is extremely important. It’s crazy what some poached eggs, popped bottles and pow wows can do to set you up for another week.
