Ah Christmas. If you aren’t stressing about what to buy other people, you’re stressing about what to wear for the plentiful Christmas parties that string you into a festive binge drinking frenzy. We all know ’tis the season to be jolly, but that usually means find an outfit to be fat in. You know, something comfy that’ll keep you dancing even after the third course. But with all these sequins minis and decadent fabrics lining up the high street, what is a girl to wear for comfort and versaility,  yet still holds the maximum impact we expect from a Christmas Party outfit? Ladies, it’s all about that velvet suit.

Well, if its good enough for Stella McCartney and Vetements it’s certainly good enough for me! The best of both worlds, velvet has that incredibley sumptuous, strokable feel to it, yet also has that covated stretch we all know and want for a Christmas dinner.  The luxurious, textured fabric is litterally perfect from dinner to dance floor right across the festive season and beyond. Pair the blazer with a white tee and your favourite jeans or the trousers with a cosy cream jumper on the big day itself.

Whether worn seperately or together for impact, the velvet suit will owe you no favours once in your wardrobe. I paired this lushous navy Boden number (its in the sale now) with a dedication to fashion gone by, with this Sonia Rykiel bodysuit and Meadham Kirchoff shoes and finishing off with some custom Sara Sboul and velvet choker for good measure. The velvet suit is the perfect pairing to go alongside the underwear / lacy trend, the soft and dainty really does bring out the best in this luxe yet heavy fabric.

The nudey pinks and blues are a fun way to lighten up the heavier fabric, but with all these rich reds and golds floating around, the options are litterally endless. I know this baby will be getting it’s wear this season, what are you wearing to the Christmas party?

forever yours betty
