When IKEA drops a collection with Beyonce, Lady Gaga and AND Madonna’s stylist, you know it’s going to be something worth decoarating your whole house in! Taking the Swedish brand to the dark and glamerous side is OMEDELBAR, the new collection from stylist, costume designer, and fashion activist Bea Åkerlund. And minimalist it certainly isn’t!
From the woman who gifted us Beyonce in Roberto Cavalli for THAT video Lemonade – for which we are forever greatful btw – Bea Åkerlund has created a whimsy collection of furnishings from top-hat vases, crown shaped bowls and lips for days ready to add a touch of fantasy to every home. Inspired by her own personal style and pieces left open to interpretation, OMEDELBAR is full of personality – ready to fit yours matching her ethos of “B. Who you are”.
In true IKEA form, this glam-forward collection lives up to their reputation for high-end designs with affordable price tags, and with 34 unique pieces to choose from you’ll have a tough time picking too! Here’s my favourite bits from the collection that just had to come home with me…
Let’s start off with – in my opinion- the most epic. The must have. The £45 Leopard Print Rug.
I’m’a gonna let that sink in a second…
Yes that’s right. the FASHUN Gods prevailed when Bea took this rug to IKEA and made it affordable. As good as it looks, it’s about time you took a walk on the wild side!
Designing the things she was lacking in her own life, the collection nod’s to Bea’s signature style with items like top hat shaped vases (£22) that come in both black gloss and clear, leaving the use of the item up to the person who buys it.
Really, my glass hat that I made, you could do whatever you want with it. You could fill it with apples and oranges, or you could use it as a champagne cooler, or whatever you want it to be or whatever your imagination wants it to be.
Few designers could pull off a collection with such bold pieces that also prove practical and mold to others sense of style. Some more classic staples like this clothes rail that looks like it’s straight from a movie set is practical, yet paired with the quirky Beatlejuice style bed canopy it would tell a different story!
There’s no safer place to leave your most treasured (or you know, your keys) than a crown bowl! (£18)
I love that even with it’s Goth Glam vibes, each item I took home from the OMEDELBAR collection fitted beautifully within my seventies style home. However, there was one item which had to be mine but not quite exactly for my home…
