Last year, I had a bit of a revelation. I looked at my makeup and saw basically a drawer of ideantical products. An array of orange eyeshadows, hoards of highlighters and around 40+ shades of red lipsticks. That may sound like an MUA’s treasure trove to some, but lately I’ve been feeling uninspired. When I first got into makeup I used to be so adventurous. From frosted lip gloss, basked in eyeliner to Rimmel Sun Shimmer, I tried it all before I fell into my sunburst comfort zone. Glitter Eyeshadow has been everywhere for years and even though I’ve not worn it on my eyes since 3rd year, that doesn’t mean I haven’t tried!
They say it’s in the application, which I believe has always been my biggest downfall. Whenever I ever try to add a little glitter to my face I’d end up wearing it all over my body. No matter how delicately I place or how much I blend, as soon as I step out my matt orange security blanket I falter. Which is why when Boot’s challenged me to create a glitter look with Glitter Eyeshadow I wanted to throw myself in the deep end with not one, but two glitter looks to rock like an adult!
After applying my usual base face, I took NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in 01 and used just two shades to create the base eye colour. Using a matt neutral all over the lid and a beaut rich blue in the crease, I just use the windscreen wiper movement to create a roundness to the eye. I love blue eyeshadow but applying it gives me the fear, so I wanted to give it a whirl. Keeping it to the crease made it relatively simple, blowing off excess before  going in. I’d also reccomend cleaning up the edges with a baby wipe before moving onto the glitter – this saves even the biggest disasters – TRUST!
As it turns out, there has been a reason as to why I’ve ended up wearing all the glitter everytime I try and apply it. The key lies in a Glitter Primer. Yes, there is such a thing and NYX Cosmetics have got it nailed. After squeezing a tiny amount onto my hand and applying it to my brush before dipping into the glitter, the primer acts as a glue tansporting it easily from brush to face, finishing off with a coat of NYX’s legendary mascara, Worth the Hype.

For the day look I went quite sublte with the glitter, adding the white in 05 to the inners of the eye. To take it to night, I added the blue metallic (02) ontop of the matt blue crease, sprinkling the white to the tops of my cheeks and beneath the brows for extra highlight.  I decided to go quite 70’s with my colouring and added a deep red lip in NYX’s lip vinyl to finish it all off.
As someone who isn’t the best when it comes to makeup, I am pretty chuffed with how this one turned out! I got a lot of compliements about wearing blue eyeshadow so think I will give it a try more often. If anything I am just glad that at the age of 31 I can finally apply glitter correctly, and it’s all thanks to NYX. Comfort zone? Who’s this?! What do you think of my two glitter looks?
Post in collaboration with Boots and NYX Cosmetics but all thoughts are my own.
