A matching outfit is a style we have taken on since birth bibs and booties. Huge in the 50’s and 60’s – mostly due to having one reel of fabric – it’s now back with a chic twist as we take co-ords to the next level. A swift turn for the convenient (HOLLA!) now it’s all about matching your clothes and dressing within a colour pallet. Because who has the time to pull together a cute outfit in these winter mornings? That’s right, dressing in the dark just got a whole lot easier thanks to one colour dressing.
Wearing a matchy matchy outfit has been raging up quite the storm for the past few years, but only really made accessible on the high street over the last season or so. Working its way from day to evening wear, stores have taken the hassle out of everyday styling by showing us their co-ords, but now they’re putting matters back into our hands. By working around a base colour pallet, it’s all about mixing different shades and textures to bring an outfit together like I did using pink as a base.
I was running late for one of those days at work where you need to look half presentable. The cold mornings have been making it even more difficult to get out of bed so one colour dressing was a lifesaver for quick smart outfit building! Basing the look around this super cute 70’s pink check shirt from Bird on a Wire Vintage, I literally scanned my eye across my room for everything around the shade. Working it in with a pair of essential skinny jeans, I flung on an oversized coat (which I borrowed from my mum) and a furry ASOS stole for some texture. I couldn’t help but take it up another notch with some pink lipstick and of course, the obligatory handbag Pom Pom attached to my little white back pack. Not only did this look take me less than 5 minutes to find and put together, it also gives me so much joy to wear a colour I’m so often told not to wear because of my orange hair. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the clash!
