There are certain staples every woman knows they should have in their holiday closet, sunglasses, the perfect dress, swimsuit, but one that always seems to go missing is the kimono. At the end of last year, I chased some winter sun in Marrakech, Morrocco with my BFF Honey Pop and found packing somewhat of a challenge. Filtering a capsule wardrobe that would not only be comfortable in the 20+ temperatures and be suitable for what we had planned while also reflecting the stunning surroundings we were about to be in is tougher than you think! Well, if you don’t have a Kimono that is…

As soon as I stepped into Marrakech I instantly felt so decadent. With each turn there was something beautiful to see and smell; from the rich spices in the old town Sooks to the constant scent of Oud and Rose Water at every turn. We had the opportunity to see some incredible hotels and spaces, but none could really compare to one, The Selmen Hotel.

A true feast for the eyes, the Selmen Hotel is like nothing I have ever seen before. Named after an Arabian stud horse who founded a line of thoroughbreds, the family-owned Selman Hotel opened just a few years ago, yet gives the feeling of rich Moroccan history. Based at the bottom of the breathtaking Atlas Mountains, Selmen gives the impression of a Berber Palace, walking through bright colours and textures until you come across the 80m pool surrounded by four poster lounge beds. If heaven was a place on earth, I’d bet it would look something like this.

After a tour around their very own designer Stud farm, myself and Amanda decided that the scenery was too pretty to not have a photoshoot. There’s something about a Kimono that screams QUEEN so we were very happy to pretend this was our castle. We were so lucky that British designer Silken Favours let us borrow the Kimonos, especially since they aren’t released until Spring Summer! They felt incredible brushing against our skin, so spinning came naturally!

I have been in love with Silken Favours since first setting eyes on their Instagram a few years back. Vicki Murdoch, the brains and hand behind the illustrative prints have always captured my heart from cushions to playful, kitschy ready to wear pieces. The kimono is the first piece I have worn and I couldn’t have felt more glamorous and comfortable at the same time.

Make sure you subscribe to keep up to date of our (mis?) adventues! I’m dreaming that the next time I visit Marrakech – and there will be a next time – I will be staying in the Selman Hotel. A girl can dream, right?

  1. That hotel looks incredible. What time of year did you visit? Also, I love the kimonos. That’s a must have for me if I’m going to set foot in a country with that much sunshine and not risk getting horrible sunburn.
