If you were to reach into your wardrobe to select one of your favourite “cool” pieces, a full on floral coat maybe wouldn’t be your first pick. The pattern is traditionally thought of as pretty and feminine, rather than tough or badass. But, with this season’s reprise of wallpaper florals (hurrah!) that’s about to change. Florals is generally a trend that’s never gonna date and this year the brighter and more graphic the better.

This floral vintage Pringle coat is one of my prized possessions. It came into my life as a gift of love when I worked in the Vivienne Westwood store in Glasgow. I spent most of my days there being a personal stylist to the Glasweigian Glitteratti and when one of my regulars found out my love for vintage, she brought this coat in just for me as a thank you. She purchased it herself from Pringle in the early 1980’s and only had it on a few times. As soon as I saw it my heart melted. The shape, the array of pastel pinks poseys, the pom poms, THE POM POMS! It was basically everything one could want in a coat. The fact it was pure wool and made by one of my countries most amazing heritage brands, was just the pollen on top. Love your clothes you say? This coat is a wardrobe soul mate.

I decided to break up the stunning but intense print with this gorge mint green fur stole from Miss Selfridge which I tied into the belt. I like to think of it as the stem that brings the outfit together! The rest of the outfit was fit for a comfy and cosy day in the office. A pair of token skinny jeans, shirt and accented pastels with my ASOS disco bargain boots. I picked up this adorable Poodle jumper when the ASOS sale hit 70%. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken and when a pastel jumper with a fuzzy poodle appliqué goes down to just £7.50, that is one of those times.

This outfit perfectly represents how you can reinvent existing items in your wardrobe with just a slight twist of styling. As some items come and go, this coat I know will forever be in my wardrobe. Do you have any items you think you will keep in your life forever?

forever yours betty
