Myself and my beeloved business partner Bee have been working on a really fun (and worthwhile) event on the 1st of June with Love Your Clothes and Zero Waste Scotland as part of their Spring Clean Your Wardrobe Campaign. We are inviting you and an item of clothing you once love to Beyond the Finish Line (Glasgow) for some extreme upcycling with a difference, we will be working with some of Scotland’s top designers to make sure your item is less craft and more craved. The best part of all, its FREE!
I am kind of over this whole Kirstie Allsopp / Great British Sewing Bee malarky, yes all upcycling is great but would you really wear that patchwork cardie that you managed to recreate after a moment of inspiration? We didn’t think so. This is why we are roping in the help of some of the best in Scottish design to show you what you can really do with your old clothes. With the help of Silvia Pellegrino (AKA Miss Chouchou), Jennie Loof and talented cousins Danni and Nikki McWilliams we will be showing you how to get your clothes looking not only good as new, but bang on trend too. Our favourite biscuit lover Nikki will be working on some simple printing excersizes you can do at home. We are big fans of everything Nikki touches so we are extremely excited to be working with her on such an fun event. I am viisuallising some printed jeans along with personalising a few old tee’s, there is really no one better (or nicer) to learn from! Our beloved Jennie is an absulute inspiration. The way she merges clothes together is just incredible and I have BAGS full of stuff I have wanted to do soemthing with for a while. Jennie will be teaching us how to fix hems, insert zips and how to make that vintage shirt you have been wanting to wear for ages actually fit you. Thanks Jennie! Next up we have the one and only Silvia from Chouchou. She will be working with all things luxury from studding to fur trims, if there is one thing this girl knows it’s how to look expensive and feel great in clothing. I have my eye on an old coat that is calling for some TLC! Last but by no means least we have Danni McWilliams. We have been loving her easy to wear street glamour designs since we first clapped eyes on her Homegirls collection, now we have the opportunity to revamp our wardobes with her! She whipped up this amazing denim jacket to show us what kinda somethin somethin she will be showing us next Sunday! I can’t wait for a Betty version! So I had a wee spy on Pintrest and started to come up with some ideas for my own wardrobe. I am obsessed with collars so think I may add a little something onto some of them to change things up a bit. Love the look of this floral above. I also pretty denim obsessed at the moment and have invested (well, cheaply) in some jeans recently. I think I am going to chanel my inner Marc Jacobs and do some printing with some distressing on a pair. I also have been loving everything with fur trims so I have looked out an old pair of sandals in desperate need of some Pucci treatment like these bad boys. My wardrobe is getting excited already! All materials will be provided on the day so all you need to do is bring some of your clothes you want to learn to love again. We’ll be covering everything from bleeching to fixing zips, distressing, studding to printing – all simple techniques you can repeat at home. I must admit it has been oh so fun to research and I think I’m gonna be bringing a whole bin bag of clothes to rework! The event will be a drop in from 12-5pm although there will be some slots for the specifics like changing zips etc. The event is completely free to join in and open to completely EVERYONE! Please join and share the Facebook Event page for all updates, timetables and inspiration ideas. All clothes deserve to be loved, give your wardrobe some much needed affection and revamp your clothes next Sunday!
