After a few days of shade bathing in the beautiful French fishing village that is Cassis, I didn’t quite think that I would stumble across a local jewellery designer who’s hand crafted, gold plated creations had me swooning across the dock. Her name? Les curiosités d’Elixir.

Myself and Halliday were taking a lovely hand held stroll pre Mules Frites when we saw our calling colour – peach – enamel work staring right back at us. The most beautiful and unique colour combinations, yellows and pinks, peaches and greens in the most delicate hues, matched with dainty little gold chains or kitsch shapes. We’d met our jewellery match!

Stitching together the French and English that we all knew, myself Halliday and the designer Emma told us that she made absolutely everything from scratch, with no two being the same. We all know that every girl loves an individual touch and Emma’s pieces were that perfect balance of playful grown up jewellery. That night we decided to for matching cornflower blue friendship bracelets with little star trims. They were perfect.

On our last night in Cassis, we stumbled across Emma’s stall again – it was fate – and all the girls were having kittens over pretty much every piece she had on display. With everyone cooing, the difficult job was deciding not only the piece we wanted but the colours too. I ended up going for the piece which caught my eye at first sight – the Hula Hoop – gilded with 24 carat gold and enamel, she’s a real beaut.

Les curiosités d’Elixir (translation of the Curiosity Potion!) has some real colourful and offbeat pieces which is really refreshing, especially within the sea of traditional jewellery which surrounded her. The fact that everything is manufactured in her workshop in Marseille in the upmost quality (24k gold, brass, pigmented resin and some glitter to be exact) I would say that they are worth every penny. Check out her Etsy shop and treat yourself – I know I did!
