It’s not just us humans who have to look after our nashers, it’s important to keep our dogs teeth healthy too!  I’m sure if you mentioned your dogs dental care back in the day you would’ve expected more than a few laughs. But because of this, a lot of people are unaware of all the risks of bad puppy oral hygiene.  While some vets recommend a yearly dental cleaning (yea, pricy!)  I prefer taking care of business at home. Here are my top tips for keeping your fur baby’s teeth healthy for a happier pooch.

Keep Bad Breath at Bay

It happens to the best of us, bless em, but pay attention to changes in your dog’s breath. And no, this doesn’t include first thing in the morning! But if you spot a musky like smell definitely keep an eye on it, following up with one of the below steps for better dogs dental care. More obvious signs of further dental problems include bleeding gums, brown, yellow, loose or missing teeth and pawing of the face. But in the meantime, why not try some breath freshening biscuits? The tastiest way to keep your dogs teeth healthy.

Brush their teeth

Hilarious, maybe, necessary, definitely! Train your dog to get used to teeth brushing. Since it is not something that comes natural, it can take some time, but with enough patience and treats, they’ll eventually accept it! It’s an odd sensation for them and with a little positivity, you’ll be able to brush your dog’s teeth without issue. Remember to get dog-friendly toothpaste and do not use one fit for humans.  Make sure to brush all sides and the whole process should take no more than 30 seconds.

Dental Treats

Quality chews are a major benefit to your dog dental care. Made specifically to clean your dog’s teeth almost as effectively as brushing with a toothbrush,  the chewing action scrapes off plaque and tartar and they are filled with ingredients to help prevent further build-up and make your dog’s breath fresher. And if your pup’s are anything like mine, they will LOVE  a wee dental chew,  especially Pedigree Denta Stick! By far the easiest way to make sure your puppers teeth stay strong, healthy and FRESH!

Healthy Food

Feeding a high-quality, healthy diet is a sure fire way to keep your Frenchie looking and feeling great inside out. Looking after the body means the teeth will grow nice and strong, I like to feed my girls Grain Free – Pets at Home’s own brand Wainwrights – which they LOVE! For treats, they get some cooked chicken, carrots and the odd treaty. The more poor quality food, the easier plaque can build, so make sure no matter what the diet you keep your dogs teeth healthy at home.
