As soon as the ’90s became one of this years biggest trends, I wanted to throw in the proverbial fashion towel. Surely, everyone could see that the 90’s was the era fashion forgot? Surely, people could see that there was nothing we could learn from 90’s style? And then I ate my words. Fast forward a season and I realise exactly what the 90’s gave us, the two elusive qualities that can be so hard to do well: being edgy and lazy at the same time. The kind of look that lets you roll out of bed and throw a dress on over the T-shirt you just slept in, and people are going to think you tried really hard. Yup. 90’s have got me, and I don’t know quite how to feel about it.

Succumbing to the 90’s seems to be a bit of a process. It’s not about going out and buying all the chokers your overdraft will allow, but more of a blink and you’re knee deep in it kind of thing. For me, it all started with the bomber, then in slipped the 501’s, followed by trying on around a million spaghetti-strapped slip dresses before realising they still don’t suit my shape. I even went as far a investing in some vintage oversized shirting, and so it went, until I found myself walking into Gap’s Jeans for Genes event looking like an extra from Blossom. And liked it.

The thing that really adding to my recent 90’s style is this absolute beauty of a denim jacket. This isn’t just any other boxy, oversized denim, oh no. This is my custom, dirty disco denim which all my favourite girl friends bought me for my 30th birthday. Honestly? It’s been hard to get it off my back.

You would think that being a fan of ‘ugly’ fashion that the 90’s trend would totally be my jam! And yes, some pieces totally are,but some pieces are best left alone. As far as future investment goes, I’ve already collected a fair few patches to rock up an old denim jacket, as well as a few Punky Pins!  I love the souvenir style patches and paints, especially chucked over a dress and jeans! Really, the 90’s aren’t as bad a I first thought and if anything, just given u ideas to style. You may not see me in a fake tattoo choker anytime soon – the worst –  but for now, I’m embracing the comfort and rocking the flatforms until my progressive style says otherwise. Have you noticed yourself get a little bit 90’s?
