We’re all pretty well-versed in the emotional transformation that accompanies a drastic hair cut. Hell, a big break up was the original catalyst for dying my hair the statement orange we all know today. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t take the plunge without a big change pushing you, although it can help! As you may know, I recently chopped several inches off of my hair. It was my first real haircut in years, so it was a big change. But, I’ve got to say, I’m loving the feels that a new doo can bring!

Pinterest told me that Coco Chanel once said, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” and I couldn’t agree more! So when I got an email to join Emmi  CAFFÈ LATTE on their #MakeItAYayDay campaign, I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon of positive spontaneity, as they aim to YAY everyone’s day this summer with a whole bunch of exciting activities and inspiration. With the closure of my beloved Betty & Bee, I decided to take a leap of faith into the world of freelance, and what better way to celebrate this emotional yet exciting time than a fresh new look! I mean, if it’s good enough for Coco…

When it came down to it, I really didn’t know what I wanted when I sat down with Teagan, from BLOW. Armed with an array of screen shots, emotional support from Honey Pop and my little iced-cold coffee, I scrolled through about 5-50 hairstyles that I thought were contenders, only choosing to go with a thick lustrous lob at the last minute. I’ve had almost waist-length hair for so long so I was nervous but oh so ready. It was a strange yet liberating feeling when chops had fast become a fear of mine, although with Teagan behind the scissors I knew I was in good hands! Check out the full BTS video below!

Similar to my style, I do not believe in hair rules. I am constantly told that people would never be brave enough to sport such brightly coloured hair, but times they are a’changing! Colours as bright as the rainbow are being paraded around shops to offices to your local supermarket, so if you have ever wanted to take the plunge, why not now? Your hair is a really YAY way to change up your style in the long or short term. I even decided to adjust my statement tangerine locks into a peachy dip dye for summer. Teagan used a mix of Manic Panic’s Dreamsicle with my usual Psychedelic Sunset with a touch of Electric Banana for depth. I absolutely love it!

So whether you are getting a blow dry, waist length extensions or rainbow roots, getting your hair done is a great way to feel YAY about you. Remember to make time for the things in life that make you feel good, and what’s more? Feeling good and doing things to make you smile is like chicken soup for the soul. I’m going to be finding some other cool things to do which feel just as good as this new hair made me. Keep an eye on my Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram to see what else I find to make my days a little more YAY over the next few months!
