So the other night, myself and a few other bloggers headed down The Finnieston to meet with the lovely ladies and gents from Links of London. They were celebrating a new initiative they have with The Stylist showcasing their favourite #LinksHiddenGems across four cities in the UK and Glasgow was one of them! Woohoo!

Being a Westender myself, The Finnieston is one of my regular brunching hotspots. They had an amazing array of cocktails (The the Millionaire and the Bramble were my personal faves) and I even tried my first Oyster!!! I am only just breaking myself in to fish but I was pleasantly surprised by it, maybe not something I’d order but I’ll try anything once! I love that Links of London chose some of my favourite places for their #LinksHiddenGems but I thought I’d try to add to it with some of my personal favourite places.

Lets start with the most important one, sandwiches. I am the biggest sandwich freak who believes the baked good could (and should) be appropriate eating at any time of day. My favourite place to grab a piece is well, Piece. There are two Pieces in Glasgow, the biggest (and original) situated within the bustling hub of Finniestoun and a smaller takeaway shop on Great Western Road. This independently ran breaded beauty has been filling my tummy for years with its unusual and perfectly formed vast menu of sandwiches to choose from. My favourite? We’ll I’d say it was a draw between a ‘Fat Boy’ – ham, cheddar and egg mayo on a white baguette, or a Thai Spicy Pork on Chiabatta. For me I love their attention to detail in the art of sandwich making, in the Thai pork they scoop on plenty of Asian style ‘slaw and some nuts on top for extra crunch. Definitely worth a trip to the West.

Next up lets talk about hurr, I’m very picky over who touches my barnett as nine times out of ten I run home from the hairdressers and dying to wash the OTT or dated curly style out my hair as soon as. Luckily, I have found the saviour that is MB Hair. Taking tips from London’s Topshop Oxford Street, MB Hair is bringing a blow bar – or ~BloBar –  to our cities Style Mile. With six stylish looks to choose from you can pop in and out within a half an hour lunch break and return with a perfectly formed and bang on trend look. The salon has recently moved into it’s brand spanking new premises on Buchanan Street (across from the Hard Rock Cafe) and are having an open day this Saturday the 17th for people to come in and see the new salon and try out the new services. I know I’ll be nipping along for a mini makeover before they hit up the Obscure Couture Hot Coals fashion show that very night! See you there?

My last #LinksHiddenGem has to go to Glad Rags Glasgow, although not so hidden if you are a regular to my blog, Glad Rags is an absolute gold mine of vintage and high quality second hand goods. With all the profits going to the Glad Foundation and ran by some extremely talented passionate ladies, Glad Rags is the perfect place to donate, shop or just to have a good blether with the lovely staff. On my last visit I found this fun dropped waist mint and polka dot number. It is a bit oversized but it reminds me a little of The White Pepper with its fit and colour scheme. If I can make my way South and not burst into flames, so can you and there is no need to even wait till pay day!

I’d love to know your #LinksHiddenGems, if you know another place which does a good sandwich, or cut n’ colour please do share it with me and @Links_of_London! We want to see all of our cities hidden secrets!

  1. Such a fun evening with you ladies! My hidden gems are no longer hidden… The Finnieston was one and then there’s Jellyhill on Hyndland Road (fav dog walk coffee stop spot) and Peckhams on Byres Rd for takeaway cake until midnight I think!
